About

Grant Catto LLCM, BA(hons)
The tremendous sense of achievement you feel as you become proficient in an instrument is hard to match. Having been a full-time professional musician and educator for over twenty-five years, I strive to help others feel that same sense of achievement.
I have taught and lectured at most levels – from primary school to further education. I am well-versed in all aspects of the N4/N5 and Higher Music syllabuses (including the composition and aural disciplines).
I undertake every lesson with 100% commitment and enthusiasm and take pride in the thorough preparation of the materials I create and produce. I trained classically and am equally proficient in all forms of Electric, Acoustic, and Bass styles and techniques. I particularly enjoy teaching and listening to Rock, Blues, classical, Funk, Soul, Acoustic, and Finger-style genres.
Many of my pupils undertake nationally recognised examinations in practical playing and theory throughout the year (although this is by no means compulsory), and have student pass rates of over 95% in theory (ABRSM) and 98% in practical grades (LCM and Trinity). Many of my students have gone on to study music professionally.

Aside from music, my interests include reading, cinema, quizzes and spending time with my young daughter. My taste in music is eclectic, loving everything from AC/DC to Tchaikovsky (and most points in between). I gained a BA(Hons) degree in History in 2017, and am currently in the final stretch of a BSc(Hons) in Psychology and Counselling.
